Why you’ll love it

  • 32g of protein per serving in a hearty, satisfying baked dish
  • Feeds a crowd — perfect for family dinners, Sunday meals, and holidays
  • Bubbling cheese, savory beef, and rich tomato sauce in every slice

Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles (or 9 no-boil sheets)
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (plus more for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the lasagna noodles 1 minute shy of al dente; drain and lay flat. Heat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the ground beef, breaking it up, until no pink remains, about 6–8 minutes.
  3. Add the onion and cook 4 minutes, then stir in the garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper and cook 1 minute more.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Simmer 10–12 minutes until thick and rich.
  5. In a bowl, mix the ricotta, egg, half the Parmesan, 1 cup of the mozzarella, and the parsley until smooth.
  6. Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer 4 noodles, half the ricotta mixture, 1 cup of sauce, and a handful of mozzarella. Repeat the layers once more.
  7. Top with the remaining noodles, sauce, mozzarella, and remaining Parmesan.
  8. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes, then uncover and bake 20 more minutes until bubbling and golden.
  9. Rest 10–15 minutes before slicing so the layers set. Garnish with parsley and serve.

Tips

  • Assemble up to a day ahead, refrigerate, and bake as directed (add 10 minutes covered).
  • For extra-lean protein, swap in 93/7 ground beef or ground turkey.
  • Leftovers keep 4 days refrigerated and freeze well for up to 3 months.
