Sweet, salty, garlicky, and dangerously snackable — perfect for movie nights and game days. One bite and plain fries are ruined forever.
Why you’ll love them
- Sweet-savory glaze that hits every craving at once
- Air-fryer friendly — just as crispy with less oil
- Ready in about 40 minutes with pantry ingredients
- A guaranteed crowd-pleaser for game day spreads
Ingredients
- 4 large russet potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch fries
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 4 tbsp neutral oil (for pan-frying; less for air fryer)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 2 scallions, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- Soak the fries: Soak the cut potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes. Drain and pat very dry, then toss with the cornstarch and salt.
- Crisp them: Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and fry in batches, 6–8 minutes, until deep golden and crisp. Drain on a rack. (Air-fryer option: 400°F/200°C for 18–20 minutes, shaking halfway.)
- Make the glaze: In a small saucepan, simmer the honey, soy sauce, garlic, and rice vinegar for 2 minutes until slightly thickened and glossy.
- Toss and finish: Toss the hot fries in the glaze until every fry shines, then shower with sesame seeds and scallions. Serve immediately.
Tips
- Dry fries = crispy fries. Don’t skip the soak and pat-dry.
- Toss in the glaze while the fries are piping hot so it sticks.
- Leftovers re-crisp in the air fryer at 400°F for 3–4 minutes.
