Buttery puff pastry bakes up beautifully crisp and golden, hiding a hearty, flavorful beef filling with cheesy goodness in every bite. Perfect for quick lunches, party snacks, game-day bites, or those moments when only something warm, cheesy, and satisfying will do.
Why you’ll love them
- Shatteringly flaky pastry with a savory, cheesy center
- Store-bought puff pastry keeps it weeknight-easy
- Great hot, warm, or packed for lunch the next day
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- ½ lb (225g) ground beef
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella
- ½ onion, finely diced
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Cook the filling. Brown the ground beef with the onion over medium-high heat. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Drain any excess fat and let cool slightly.
- Heat the oven. Preheat to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment.
- Cut the pastry. Unfold the puff pastry and cut into 6 equal squares.
- Fill and fold. Spoon beef and a handful of cheese onto each square. Fold into rectangles or triangles, press the edges, and crimp with a fork.
- Egg wash and bake. Brush with beaten egg, cut a small vent in each, and bake 15–18 minutes until puffed and deep golden.
- Serve. Cool 5 minutes so the cheese settles, then serve warm.
Tips
- Keep the puff pastry cold until it hits the oven — warm pastry won’t puff properly.
- Don’t overfill; a heaping spoonful of beef and cheese per pocket is the sweet spot.
- Reheat in the air fryer at 375°F for 3–4 minutes to bring back the flake.
