Why you’ll love them

  • Set-it-and-forget-it: the slow cooker does all the work while you live your day.
  • Fork-tender brisket glazed in a sweet, smoky, tangy BBQ sauce.
  • Serious protein: roughly 38g per serving.
  • A true crowd-pleaser — sandwiches, plates, or game-day spreads.

Ingredients

  • 1 beef brisket flat (3–3.5 lb)
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1.5 cups BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp ground cumin (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the brisket. Pat the brisket dry. Mix the salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder and rub it generously over all sides of the meat.
  2. Layer the cooker. Scatter the sliced onion and minced garlic over the bottom of the slow cooker and set the brisket on top.
  3. Make the sauce. Whisk together the BBQ sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire, and cumin. Pour it over the brisket, coating it well.
  4. Slow cook. Cover and cook on LOW for 8–9 hours (or HIGH for 4.5–5 hours) until the brisket is fork-tender and shreds easily.
  5. Rest and slice. Transfer the brisket to a cutting board and rest 15 minutes. Slice against the grain into thick slices.
  6. Glaze and serve. Spoon the rich cooking sauce over the sliced brisket and serve warm with your favorite sides.

Tips

  • Slice against the grain — it’s the difference between tender and chewy brisket.
  • For extra caramelized edges, broil the sliced brisket with sauce for 3–4 minutes before serving.
  • Leftovers make the best sandwiches: pile on toasted buns with slaw and pickles.
  • Skim excess fat from the sauce before spooning it over, or reduce it on the stove for a thicker glaze.
